Hello guys, here are the 2 scripts and the recording for this week’s Booth Chat, Tuesday 25th July 2023.
If you can think of any good examples of a “poetic” VO read that you’ve seen on your travels I’d love to take a look at it (I seem to remember there were some pretty good ones during the pandemic), since script 2, below, seemed to cause a lot of headaches for some of us!
Post a link in the comments section below.
The recording is below the scripts
SCRIPTS
SCRIPT 1: We are seeking a captivating voiceover for a cottage holiday ad. The voice is gentle, warm, stoic. It should be able to convey joy and a sense of measured pride. It’s reflective and poignant. The role of this voiceover is to very much immerse the audience in the film, as though it is a retrospective.
I loved seeing the world through their eyes,
Their endless curiosity…
Adventure was always around the corner
Whether near……or far…
Bound by bright memories,
For them this was more than just a holiday
SCRIPT 2: Need this one minute voice over for an online video to sound poetic, subtle, quiet, contemplative. Read it almost like a diary entry, quiet to yourself. Similar to this reference: https://vimeo.com/127012092
There’s a story…
there’s a story in the wheat
the salt
the butter
the milk and oats
there’s a story in the sugar
the dawn
the whispering wind
the herds
the wet roads
there’s a story in the drives home
the ebbs and flows
the cliffs
the moors
the early harvests
there’s a story in the quiet laugh
four generations
the hands of sons
the daughters
the eyes of mothers and fathers
there’s a story in everything
I’ll come along at 10am Tom 😊 Looking forward to it!
Nice one
I’ll be there 10 am at latest Uf possible a tad earlier maybe 9.45-50
Brilliant John
I’m in! I’m not entirely sure what we’d be doing at 9:30, though. What aspects of the scripts would we be analysing?
I’m just trying to get into the habit of doing it a bit more consistently. I’m thinking of using a structure like this:
1. How is this script going to be used? (e.g. paired with a video, audio only, video game/animation etc.)
2. Who am I in the script? (Why are you saying what you’re saying? What are you really calling people to do?)
3. Who am I talking to? (What does my target demographic look like? What situation in life would make the spot appeal to them? What should they feel when listening to my read?
4. Are there visuals and what are they?
5. Intention, Pace & Formality?
6. Emotion – is there a tangible emotional set-point to connect with?
Hi. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow 🙂
Nice one Jo
Sorry Tom, can’t make the next few as I’ll be away. Have practised reading the scripts out loud though, so thank you! Have fun everyone
Look forward to seeing you soon
Hi Tom, all going well, I will see you at 10 am 🙂
Nice one
Not sure I can make it this week, school holiday madness begins!
I feel your pain Carla
Hope to be there at 10!
Nice one Jane!
Looking forward to it. Will attempt to make 9:30 but more likely to be 10am.
Excellent news!
Great idea. Can’t join this week as I’m in dress rehearsal and tech week for a stage play of Under Milk Wood (complete with Welsh accent!!!) but love the idea of script work beforehand. Will be back and joining in next week. Thanks again
Thank you for the enthusiasm Nicola! I mainly want to try and get into the habit of thinking more about the script before I dive in too early with my “VO” voice. I want to try and understand the intention of the script and connect with that somehow. If others want to join me in the practice then I’ll bet we can help each other improve!
Hi Tom. I’ll be there, but not in time for 9:30, I’m afraid.
